Usually when I’m home, I stay away from tourist attractions. But this time, I couldn’t resist. I was a first-time hiker on Makapu’u’s beautiful trail to its lighthouse. This is a hike on the east coast of O’ahu and is very popular – and getting even more popular with the rise of tourism and from people taking such a huge interest in photography. The hike is about 2 miles round trip and is usually hot and dry. It offers breathtaking views of the windward coast and you’re even able to spot whales during the winter months. My favorite part about the views this trail offers is how small it makes me feel. It is such a humbling experience and really makes you feel blessed to live in such a beautiful world.
My advice: make a lot of pit stops on this trail to just take a breath and enjoy what you are doing and seeing; don’t mind the tourists; and of course, please don’t litter.
