Yesterday was the kick off to many First Friday Food Truck Festivals in Downtown Indy. Located at the Old National Centre, better known as the Murat Theater, sit dozens of food trucks. Food trucks! Who doesn’t love meals on wheels? If you’re itching to try each and every food truck (like I was), don’t worry because this festival takes place on the first Friday of every month.
Here are a few of the yummy trucks that I got to grab a bite from:
High 5 Lunch
Having written about Chef Trinosky (better known as Chef T.) before, I knew the food was going to be great. Here, we ate Chef T.’s Focachos. This meal consisted of focaccia bread, queso, Italian sausage, capicola ham and a mozzarella salad. High 5 Lunch is new to the food truck scene and is definitely worth checking out.
The Big Cheeze
Started by two college bros, The Big Cheeze has comfort food written all over it. Sharing their expertise in grilled cheese and giving them witty names, I tried their Vatican which was full of mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, sausage and marinara. A pizza in a grilled cheese? All great things put into one! Other menu items had names like Cheezy F. Baby and Mac Daddy.
Der Pretzel Wagen
Here we have street food style pretzel sandwiches with a twist. It’s also really cool that most menu items are named after Starwars characters. I tried Das Fritz which was full of smoked turkey, avocado ranch, bacon and cheddar cheese. YUM!
Taste of the Caribbean
This food truck prides itself on authentic Jamaican cuisine. Their specialty is traditional Jamaican Jerk chicken, served as a sandwich, wrap or as nachos as seen above. Much more on the spicy side if you’re into that.
We can’t forget dessert!
… And of course, Froyo!
