Right on the corner of Wabash and Wacker in Chicago, lies the very stylish Hotel Monaco, a Kimpton Hotel. Kimpton hotels pride themselves on being made for the savvy traveler who loves free perks. They truly care about their customers and are willing to go above and beyond to ensure a happy and fun stay. Whether you forgot your hairbrush or toothpaste, Kimpton will deliver it right to you. Or maybe you’d like to do some yoga so that you don’t mess up your daily routine, Kimpton offers a yoga map and yoga programs on TV. They offer bikes so that you can explore the city with the wind in your hair, and best of all, they host wine hour everyday from 5-6 p.m. Did I mention that Kimpton offers all of these things and more, for free?
Now specifically speaking, Hotel Monaco is a luxury hotel in the Loop of downtown Chicago and overlooks the Chicago River with views that include the Wrigley Building, Trump Tower, Marina City and DuSable Bridge. With these great views, comes incredible service. The front desk and concierge were very accommodating during our stay, offering us a suite upgrade along with treats and goodies for our puppy, Chipper, who was joining us a few days later.
The best part about Hotel Monaco were its window nooks. Our suite had 4 comfy nooks that offered spectacular views of the city. They were perfect for hanging out post-wine hour and Chipper couldn’t take his eyes off of all the passing cars, bright city lights, and rushing people. The beds were also comfortable if you prefer soft and fluffy.
Being in Chicago, there is no way to not figure out where to eat, but if you ever get super lazy during your stay at the Monaco, they offer 24-hour room service and South Water Kitchen is attached to its lobby. Let’s also not forget that Chicago is one of the most foodie cities in America so if you still have trouble finding a place to eat, shame on you!
The only negative thing about staying at the Monaco was that the bathrooms were a little outdated. This wasn’t a make it or break it issue, but they could use some renovations. The huge jacuzzi tub was a plus, but the sounds that it made when draining out the water resembled a dying old man begging to live. And the stand up shower was so small that I could barely turn around in it, let alone properly wash my hair! However, these things did not ruin my stay because the comfort, window nooks, company and location of the Monaco made up for its sub-par bathrooms.
Book this hotel if… You are looking for a luxurious stay in the heart of downtown Chicago. Kimpton hotels are also great if you are in need of a pet-friendly hotel. They do not charge extra for pets, and they offer beds, water bowls, treats, etc., for your furry kids. If you ever plan to book with Kimpton, I also suggest joining their Rewards program because members receive free WiFi and a $10 Raid the Bar credit (meaning you can buy $10 worth of goodies from the mini bar in your room).
